Game Brainstorm

My brainstorming session has gone a bit better than I expected. I've come up with some interesting ideas that I think will be quite fun to experiment with and create.

1. A horror game.
2. A mystery game.
3. A maze game.
4. An obstacle-course game.

Although I don't play games, and barely ever have, I feel like I have some fun ideas for games to create.

A Horror Game:
I'm a big fan of horror movies, so this is where my inspiration for this idea has been drawn from. The idea in my mind is a character, completely lost and confused in a field of some sort, they start to explore and find paths to follow. On these paths, they find items that trigger memories about why they're there and how they got lost. They eventually arrive at a barn, where they explore some more and find unrecognizable corpses around the area. They then get hit over the head with something, wake up with fully realized memories and an instinct to escape. (I haven't fully developed the story but this is where I want to begin with). Slender Man

A Mystery Game:
I remember always being obsessed with mysteries as a kid, and then the satisfaction of solving them. I had many different apps that I loved playing on a daily basis until I could finally reach the endpoint. I'm also a huge fan of Escape Rooms. They are one of the most entertaining experiences that you can do in my opinion, so I would love to recreate something similar to these with my own unique ideas.

A Maze Game:
Similarly to Escape Rooms, maze's are so much fun. The feeling of confusion and being so lost really spikes up the adrenaline. I would obviously want to make this more than just a few walls with one designated path to the end. My current idea (If I go with this option) is to also make it scary; to add to the entertainment and enjoyment. Have a few jump-scares, maybe even something chasing the player. I feel like it could be very fun to create, and also it could be made so that every time somebody plays they can have a different experience (a lot of paths). I couldn't find any examples of what my vision is so here is an example of what I DON'T want to do (https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/63889722/)

An Obstacle-Course Game:
My past ideas have been quite dark, so I decided to go with something a little bit more light-hearted for my fourth option. My inspiration for this came from Minecraft and Grand Theft Auto. I used to watch videos online where people would play obstacle courses on foot (Parkour in Minecraft) or by car (Mods in GTA) and found it very fun to watch and made you want to play. It would be fun to create my own course and play around with my inspirations from both games.

  1. This was an interesting blog to read and I was able to learn a lot from this, your process of brainstorming was great. I think your ideas for game like the maze game and horror game can work together very well to be a challenging and scary game. I can see form this post you’re a fan of horror movies and I think this will be an advantage for you.

  2. Hello Brian, I have just read through your Game Brainstorm ideas and I must say these are some interesting ideas you have put forward for yourself. I too enjoy escape the rooms myself, I have done them before myself with several friends and they can be very challenging but immensely satisfying once conquered. I also enjoy the last idea you have listed, that being the obstacle course. I can see a potentially simple but addictive game brewing and that with the right amount of patience and effort it can be a real joy to play with. Regarding the maze game, do you plan to make the maze game be randomized in terms of level design to allow the element of surprise be present in the game or will there be a randomized end goal to the maze each time the game is booted up? Like I said, these are good game ideas and I think you have a good chance at creating something great.

  3. Hey Brian,
Just reading through your game ideas and I think you have some really good ideas. All the ideas can made if you put your mind to it. Even though you don't play games I think that you use one of these ideas and make a very good game. As a fan of horror movies myself I will say that I find as of the later horror movies to be very predictable so I hope if you decide to make this game that when i'm playing it i want to jumping off my seat from a fright. I really like the idea of your maze game because I think being lost not being able to find your way out is scary enough and you wanting to add scary pop-ups even someone chasing you will definitely get the players adrenaline going for sure. Just wanted to say that I enjoyed reading through your game ideas and i wish you the best of luck with the one you decide to do.

Introduction to a Future Web Developer.

Hey! This post is a little bit less of the 'fun talk' than discussing my favorite game, but it will still be very interesting. I will be discussing ME! Nothing too personal, I will be focusing on the professional side of my everyday life. At the moment, college takes up most of my time, as you would expect. I am currently in my second year of study in Creative Digital Media and so far, I'm loving it! We aren't really too long into Second Year for me to give a fully-fledged opinion on it, but I can definitely share my thoughts from First Year.  First Year was hands-down the quickest year of my life. It is crazy how different your life feels when starting in a completely different environment, especially after coming straight from secondary school, like I did. When you're finally studying and working on something that you want to be doing, you have fun and time really does fly. I definitely know that I'm in the right course. My favorite thing about...

So, I've managed to complete the three levels that I hoped to complete. I have added a skybox to the levels also, and have changed the color of the text on-screen (the coin-counter) from black to white, as the black text blended in with the background. My Own Screenshot Of The Updated First Level One issue I'm having is with the materials and textures. I have no idea what's happening with them. All materials are now showing up as the default plain white (they have a pink hue in the screenshot due to the skybox), and it won't allow me to add the textures or materials that I intended to use, and that were used in my first playable. Also, when you play the game, and progress to another level, this happens: My Own Screenshot Of Level 2 For some reason, the hue then changes to kind of a beige color. This only happens when you begin on a certain level and progress to another one during gameplay. If I were to begin gameplay on Level 2, for exampl...
